Refer to the Priorites in Hiring section to help you determine which veteran status to choose when applying for the exam(s). Secondly, make sure you apply for the appropriate levels (Representative 1 and/or 2) for which you want to be tested. You may apply for one or both job titles for your appropriate veteran status. Refer to the JOB Requirements section to help you determine for which level(s) you are eligible. You will NOT be permitted to add job titles after you test.

NATURE OF WORK
Veterans Employment Representatives 1 and 2 provide job related information and outreach services to disabled veterans and other veterans to assist them in finding employment. You will interview veterans, take employment requests from employers (job orders) and refer veterans to employers or other services.
Veterans Employment Representatives 2 also promote the employment of veterans through personal visits or formal presentations to companies, businesses, and veterans’ organizations.
PRIORITIES IN HIRING
Due to federal regulations, priorities in hiring will be granted in the following order:

Service-Connected Disabled Veteran - a veteran who is entitled to disability compensation under laws administered by the Veterans Administration or a veteran who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability. |
|

|
|
2. |
Eligible Veteran – a veteran who has other than a dishonorable discharge and has served on active duty for a period of more than 180 days. |
|
|
|
|
3. |
Eligible Spouse - a spouse of a veteran who died of service-connected disabilities or a spouse of an active duty veteran forcibly detained or missing in action (MIA) or a spouse of a 100% disabled veteran. |
JOB REQUIREMENTS
You must be willing to travel. Travel expenses will be paid.
You must also be willing to attend training at the National Veterans Training Institute. This training is approximately 1 week in duration and is usually held in Denver, Colorado.
You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.
Necessary Special Requirement (all job titles except VER1S and VER2S)
Completion of service in a branch of the United States Armed Forces, separated with honorable conditions.
Clarification of Necessary Special Requirement for all job titles except VER1S and VER2S
This means you must have served on active duty for a period of more than 180 days and have been discharged or released with other than a dishonorable discharge or discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected compensated disability.
If you were a member of the Reserves or National Guard and had more than 180 days of active duty (not active duty for training) and were discharged or released with other than a dishonorable discharge or were released from active duty because of a service-connected compensated disability, you also meet this requirement.
Clarification of Necessary Special Requirement for VER1S and VER2S - Eligible Spouse
If you are the spouse of a veteran who died of service-connected disabilities or a spouse of an active duty veteran forcibly detained or missing in action (MIA) or a spouse of a 100% disabled veteran, you also meet the Necessary Special Requirement.
Minimum Requirements
Veterans Employment Representative 1 (VER1D, 06370, VER1S) - Three years of responsible public contact work in veterans’ affairs or employment service work; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Veterans Employment Representative 2 (VER2D, 06380, VER2S) - One year as a Veterans Employment Representative 1; OR 5 years of responsible public contact work in veterans’ affairs or employment service work; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Clarification of Minimum Requirements
You may substitute related education for the required experience. Unrelated experience or education will not be accepted.

TESTING
IMPORTANT: You must submit documentation supporting your veteran status, as well as an “Application for Employment/Promotion” and Application Supplement 2010-074-1 to be approved prior to your being scheduled for testing. Application Supplement 2010-074-1, attached at the end of this announcement, lists descriptions of veteran status options and the documentation required to support each option. See the ‘How to Apply’ section for application information.

If the documentation supporting your claim of veteran status is approved, you will receive a notice in the mail which includes a scheduled date for testing. If you are unable to take the test on the date scheduled, you may reschedule.
After you have tested, your application will be evaluated to determine if you meet the Minimum Requirements of experience and/or training. If it is found that you do meet the Minimum Requirements, you will receive results of your test in the mail. If after reading the requirements you are not sure you qualify, contact one of the Commission's offices listed at the end of this announcement.
The written multiple choice test will be administered on a computer. Information about computerized testing is available online at www.scsc.state.pa.us OR in paper form at any State Civil Service Commission office.

The test will be administered in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh State Civil Service Commission offices, Monday through Friday.
The test also will be held approximately 10 days a month at additional test centers located in Allentown, Erie, Johnstown, Lock Haven, and Scranton. If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your test. You must submit a new application to be retested.
If your name is on an eligible list for one of these job titles and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.
TEST RESULTS
Employment and promotion lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.
