NATURE OF WORK
Pharmacist – You will dispense physicians’ prescriptions including ointments, powders, solutions, medicines and drugs. The work may include directing pharmacy assistants or custodial and non-technical personnel. Supervision is received from a Chief Pharmacist.
Chief Pharmacist – You will develop or implement all policies, procedures and controls for dispensing of pharmaceuticals and certain pharmaceutical supplies. You will also supervise pharmacists, pharmacy assistants, clerical staff and custodial personnel. Supervision is received from a medical or administrative superior.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.
If you are a final candidate for a position covered by the Older Adults Protective Services Act, you will have to obtain a report of criminal record information, at your own expense, from the Pennsylvania State Police, or a statement that the State Police Central Repository contains no information relating to you. If you have not been a resident of Pennsylvania for two years prior to the date that you received notification that you are a final candidate, you are also required to furnish a report of Federal Criminal History Record Information, at your own expense, from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
You must pass a background investigation. After you receive a conditional offer of employment you must undergo a medical examination.
Necessary Special Requirement – Both Job Titles
Possession of a license to practice pharmacy issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Pharmacy.
Minimum Requirements
Pharmacist – No experience is required.
Chief Pharmacist – Two years of experience as a pharmacist in a hospital pharmacy.
Clarification of Requirements – Chief Pharmacist
Experience as a pharmacist in other facilities may be acceptable if standards are comparable to a hospital type of facility.

Pharmacists and Chief Pharmacists are employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare at the South Mountain Restoration Center, mental health facilities and mental retardation centers throughout the state. The Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs employs Pharmacists and Chief Pharmacists in regional veterans’ homes and centers.
Currently there are 30 filled Pharmacist positions and 15 filled Chief Pharmacist positions. The Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare expects to fill 2 vacancies at Warren State Hospital, Warren County and 1 vacancy at Torrance State Hospital, Westmoreland County.
Lists created by this test will be used to fill future vacancies as they occur due to retirements, promotions, transfers, resignations and so forth.

TESTING
Your application will be evaluated to determine whether you meet the Minimum Requirements and Necessary Special Requirement. If you meet these requirements, you will receive a score. You must provide your pharmacist license number and issue date in the “Licenses or Certificates” section of your Application for Employment/Promotion. Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or result in disqualification.
If you fail to qualify for these job titles, you may reapply after meeting the requirements. A new application is required.
If this announcement does not produce enough names for a specific area, another test may be announced for that area only.
TEST RESULTS
Employment and promotion lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.
