NATURE OF WORK

 

You will design and configure databases, maintain storage structures, perform database expansion, reorganization, or conversion functions, and backup and recovery functions.  You will also evaluate database management systems, monitor and tune tools and gateways, and research and resolve problems related to access, usage, and performance of database systems.

 

Database Administrators perform advanced technical and administrative work in data management through planning, design, implementation, and operation of database systems.  You will work to develop storage structures and establish overall database access methodologies.  You will also plan and implement database expansions, reorganizations, and conversions.  Database Administrators establish and administer database policies and develop data models and logical designs.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

You will be tested before your qualifications are reviewed.  Your test results will count only if you meet all job requirements.

Minimum Requirements

 

Database Analyst - One year as an Applications Developer 1 or Information Technology Generalist 1; OR 2 years of information technology experience that includes 1 year in the analysis, design, and maintenance of databases in overall support of database administration or in the analysis and design in overall support of data administration, and an associate’s degree in any information technology field; OR 4 years of information technology experience that includes 1 year in the analysis, design, and maintenance of databases in overall support of database administration or in the analysis and design in overall support of data administration; OR a bachelor's degree in any information technology field.

 

Database Administrator 1 - One year as a Database Analyst or Information Technology Generalist 2; OR 3 years of information technology experience that includes 2 years in the analysis, design, and maintenance of databases in overall support of database administration, and an associate’s degree in any information technology field; OR 5 years of information technology experience that includes 2 years in the analysis, design, and maintenance of databases in overall support of database administration; OR 1 year of information technology experience in the analysis, design, and maintenance of databases in overall support of database administration, and a bachelor's degree in any information technology field; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

TESTING

 

The test will be administered on a computer.  Information about computerized testing is available online at www.scsc.state.pa.us OR in paper form at any State Civil Service Commission office.

 

You will have a maximum of 3 hours to complete the test which will cover the following subject areas:

The test will be administered in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh State Civil Service Commission offices, Monday through Friday.

If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your test.  You must submit a new application to be retested.

 

If your name is on an eligible list for these job titles and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.

TEST RESULTS
