NATURE OF WORK

 

Human Resources Development Specialist 1

You will review project proposals submitted by human services providers to determine compliance with standards and requirements, and analyze records, reports and other information regarding programs intended to improve the quality of life for socially disadvantaged persons.  You will monitor ongoing programs through field visits and explain technical aspects of programs to various service providers.  You will not work directly with recipients of social services.

 

Human Resources Development Specialist 2

You will work with more independence and will be responsible for projects of greater scope and responsibility.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

You will be tested before your qualifications are reviewed.  Your test results will count only if you meet all job requirements.

 

You must be willing to travel.  Travel expenses will be paid.

Minimum Requirements

Human Resources Development Specialist 1

One year of responsible professional experience working in a federal, state, local, or private program providing assistance to socially or economically disadvantaged persons; and a bachelorís degree in a human resources field such as social work, social services, sociology, psychology, political science, or urban affairs; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

 

Human Resources Development Specialist 2

Two years of experience as a Human Resources Development Specialist 1; OR three years of responsible professional experience working in a federal, state, local, or private program providing assistance to socially or economically disadvantaged persons; and a bachelorís degree in a human resources-related field such as social work, social services, sociology, psychology, political science, or urban affairs; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

TESTING

 

The test will be administered on a computer.  Information about computerized testing is available online at www.scsc.state.pa.us OR in paper form at any State Civil Service Commission office.

The test will be administered in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh State Civil Service Commission offices, Monday through Friday.
