NATURE OF WORK

 

You will conduct licensing/approval inspections of early learning facilities throughout the state to measure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.  Inspections include a review of program records, facility policies and procedures, staff records, financial contracts, interviews, and a physical inspection of the facility.

 

You will also investigate complaints and incidents in facilities to assess regulatory compliance and make appropriate referrals to law enforcement and other local health and human service agencies.  You will be responsible for explaining rules and guidelines to community agencies, the public, and service providers, and provide guidance to correct deficiencies. 

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

You will be tested before your qualifications are reviewed.  Your test results will count only if you meet all job requirements.

 

Irregular work hours are required for travel to sites and for early morning, evening, or weekend inspections.  You must be willing to travel.  Travel expenses will be paid.

Minimum Requirements

Two years of professional experience providing direct services to children and youth and a bachelorís degree that includes 24 semester hours of college level courses in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, psychology, or human development; OR an equivalent combination of professional experience and training, which includes one year of professional experience providing direct services to children and youth and 24 semester hours of college level courses in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, psychology, or human development.

The test will be administered in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh State Civil Service Commission offices, Monday through Friday.
