NATURE OF WORK

 

Conservation Program Specialist 1 – You will plan, administer, evaluate, and coordinate conservation related programs and activities such as watershed management, erosion and sediment control and permitting, dirt and gravel roads, farmland preservation, nutrient and odor management, and conservation tax credits.  Work involves gathering information and advising conservation districts, state agencies, and department personnel in the latest conservation techniques, laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures, and coordinating enforcement activities and professional certification programs.  Duties also include program management and administrative activities related to conservation districts, conservation district leadership development and technical assistance, training of conservation district staff and other technical service providers, and coordination with the activities of related federal, state and local agencies.  

 

Conservation Program Specialist 2 – You will perform the same type of work as a Conservation Program Specialist 1 with minimal supervision, as well as supervise professional or technical personnel.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Requirements

Conservation Program Specialist 1 - Two years’ experience as a Conservation District Field Representative 2; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

 

Conservation Program Specialist 2 - Two years’ experience as a Conservation Program Specialist 1; OR six years of experience in the application of soil and water conservation practices including four years in a specialized area of soil and water conservation, and such training as may have been gained through a bachelor's degree with a combination of twenty-four (24) credit hours in courses related to Natural or Environment Resources Management, or one of the closely related disciplines; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
