ACCELERATED EXAMINATION PROGRAM

 

This accelerated examination program is being offered to fill one position in the near future.  The employment list resulting from this examination will last for one year and may be used again by the agency during this time.

 

Generally, examination results will be available within a few weeks after the above deadline date for accepting applications.  You will receive written notification of a rating for this job from the State Civil Service Commission.  Employment interviews will be scheduled and conducted by the hiring agency.

 

As a second part of this examination, if you are hired, you must serve a six-month Working Test Period (WTP).  If you are hired and successful in the WTP, your employment will be continued.  If you are hired and unsuccessful in the WTP, your employment will be terminated and a new candidate will be selected from the list.

 

NATURE OF WORK

 

This is professional work in which you will plan, direct and organize all activities relating to the processing and the determination of employer and employer pool applications for insurance exemptions under the Workers’ Compensation Act, relating to the administration of the Self-Insurance Guaranty Fund (SIGF) and the use of financial security to remedy self-insurance defaults and the calculation and distribution of assessments payable under the act. 

 

Occasional overtime and travel are required to carry out the demands of the position. A knowledge of professional designations and certifications, such as: Associate in Risk Management (ARM), the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) granted by the Insurance Institute of America, the Certified Risk Manager (CRM) offered by the National Alliance for Insurance Education Research, and the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) offered by the CFA Institute is highly desirable.

Minimum Requirements

Four years of responsible experience in the field of property and casualty insurance underwriting, two of which must have involved Workers’ Compensation, and including or supplemented by two years of supervisor experience, and a Bachelor’s degree.  Education beyond the Bachelor’s level may be substituted for up to two years of the general insurance experience on a year for year basis.
