Many students who are served in ABLE-funded educational programs display a continuum of learning challenges that range from mild learning difficulties to serious Learning Disabilities. Providing appropriate and high-quality instruction to these students is a continual challenge.
The ABLE Learning Differences Project provides professional development and guidance to ABLE-funded programs regarding the needs of, and appropriate services for, students who demonstrate learning difficulties and disabilities. The comprehensive services provided by the LD project include consultation with agencies, site visits, regional and statewide training sessions and independent study activities. The independent study options include "webinar" type topical and agency-specific professional development as well as general readings of materials contained on the project Web site. Practitioners can obtain Act 48 credit for some activities by completing post-reading assessments or completing assigned projects.
The site contains information in the following areas:
Readings and other information about the types of learning difficulties that might be encountered in adult education programs and what might be done to address those issues.
