Internships
(Unpaid)

Due to current budget constraints, the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) provides unpaid internship opportunities only through the following established internship programs.  The internships are designed to provide students with educational experience needed for the course of study.

Unpaid Internships:

Engineering Scientific and Technical Intern provides full time college or graduate students with valuable work experience in such areas as business and management, engineering, agricultural sciences, earth sciences, architecture, mathematics, computer systems, etc. Internships are generally during the summer months. Students must be currently enrolled in a technical, scientific, or engineering field of study. Whether students earn credit for internships is determined by the college/university.

Application Process:

Students submit a Personal Data Sheet Personal Data Sheet link to the Bureau of Human Resources, 11 th floor since Human Resources must coordinate employment with the Bureau of State Employment in the Office of Administration.

Government Services Intern provides college or graduate students with valuable “para-professional” work experience in such areas as accounting, fine arts, humanities, journalism, public administration, and social sciences. Students must be enrolled in a post-secondary program. Whether students earn credit for an internship will be determined by the college/university.

Harrisburg Semester Internship Program is designed to provide Pennsylvania State University undergraduate students majoring in a variety of academic majors such as Political Science and Public Policy, Business Administration, Information Sciences Technology, Behavioral Sciences and Sociology, and Communications with the opportunity to intern with state agencies and other public service organizations in Harrisburg. Internships in the Department of Education are unpaid.

Students can obtain additional information on this program at Penn State Harrisburg Internship Semester.

The Harrisburg Internship Semester is designed to provide students enrolled in a State System of Higher Education institution with practical training in government and other agencies and gives them credit for this experience. There is no cost to the agency for the placement.
