PACE/PACENET Expansion
Governor Edward G. Rendell has delivered on his promise to make sure older Pennsylvanians have access to life-sustaining prescription medications. During his first year in office, Gov. Rendell signed legislation to increase income limits for the PACE and PACENET prescription assistance programs, making more than one million older residents eligible for those crucial programs. Since the new limits took effect, PACE and PACENET have added more than 90,000 new enrollees.
PACE and PACENET are funded entirely by the Pennsylvania Lottery - no tax dollars are used. Under Gov. Rendell's leadership, the Pennsylvania Lottery has taken steps to ensure it will be able to support those programs well into the future.
At the Governor's direction, the Department of Aging is implementing other cost-saving initiatives to benefit the PACE program including:
- Requiring "best price" rebates from manufacturers for branded products
- Using the "Federal upper limit" maximum allowable cost in reimbursing pharmacies
- Developing a 90-day supply policy and mail order access for consumers
