The Center for Advocacy for the Rights and Interests of the Elderly, CARIE provides information and referral services via the CARIE Line, Victim’s Advocacy, Emergency Assistance, and much more. Look for their new Caregiver’s Cyberschool – an exciting project made possible by a grant from the PA Department of Aging. The CARIE Caregiver Cyberschool promises an interactive learning experience that will engage and enlighten the user.

 

Centers for Indépendant Living – www.pcil.net
Pennsylvania’s Council on Independent Living represents all the Centers for Independent Living in the commonwealth. The CILs provide information and referral services, advocacy, empowering the individual to speak for themselves, peer mentoring and independent living skills training and much more.

 

Disability Rights Network of Pennsylvania – http://drnpa.org
The federally mandated, independent, non-profit organization in Pennsylvania that protects and advocates for the rights of people with disabilities. The Disability Rights Network provides consumers with assistance to remedy rights violations, including abuse and neglect.

Assistance and advocacy for low-income consumers, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.

The Elks Home Service Program supports and promotes the independence of individuals of any age with developmental disabilities in their home environment.

Family Caregiver takes a cost-sharing approach; income-eligible families may receive reimbursement of out of pocket expenses ranging from respite care to adult briefs. In addition, one-time grants of up to $2,000 may be given to qualified families to modify the home or purchase assistive devices to accommodate the frail relative

The Pennsylvania Statewide Independent Living Council (PA SILC) is a nonprofit, cross-disability, consumer-controlled organization dedicated to securing public policies that ensure civil rights for people with disabilities by supporting the independent living philosophy.

 

Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network – www.palegalservices.org
Through the Legal Aid Network’s companion website, advice, information and referrals are available on a wide variety of issues, from disability rights, employment, access and housing issues to elder law issues such wills, guardianship and power of attorney as well as many other legal matters.

The Pennsylvania SeniorLAW Helpline is a toll-free, state-wide, legal information, advice and referral service for Pennsylvania senior citizens (60 years and older). Philadelphia residents age 60 and older may also receive cost free services through the Senior LAW Center.
