Office of Victims' Services Restitution Efforts

Over the past year and a half OVS has held regional focus groups to meet with victim advocates across the state and also conducted site visits in Somerset, Lancaster, Bucks, York, Dauphin, and Luzerne counties to document their restitution process from the assessment phase to the enforcement phase. OVS sincerely appreciates all of the advocates, agencies, and other departments that opened their doors to us and made time in their busy schedules to meet with us to share best practices and enforcement techniques as well as suggestions on what improvements or changes are needed at both the state and local level. Because of the valuable feedback we received from the field we have identified several key components that could be strengthened to continue to increase the amount of restitution ordered and collected statewide and ensure that crime victims are being afforded their full right to restitution. A huge thank you to everyone who has participated in our discussions over the past year. The assessment and enforcement of restitution is a huge issue that impacts all of us, but especially victims of crime.

In addition, as a result of your input, our office was able to share "Tips for the Collection of Restitution" with others throughout the Commonwealth who have a role in strengthening the collection of restitution. OVS has received significant positive feedback as a result of this best practice sharing initiative.
