Since Citizen Corps' inception, Pennsylvania Citizen Corps Councils have trained thousands of Pennsylvania residents to be volunteers in one of the core programs. Pennsylvania also encourages young residents to take Teen CERT classes. These courses teach valuable life skills, encourages volunteer work in schools and communities, and promotes careers in public safety.
Pennsylvania Citizen Corps has also worked to track volunteer hours spent on public education and outreach. In the past year, volunteers have logged thousands of hours conducting presentations and executing events to several hundred thousand Pennsylvania citizens aimed at educating them in emergency preparedness. Activities have ranged from county and safety fairs and Senior Expos to Open Houses at schools. Audiences for presentations have ranged the gambit from Chambers of Commerce to Girl/Boy Scouts troops and daycares/schools and senior centers.
