Storage Tank Cleanup Program
The Storage Tank Cleanup Program is administered by the Division of Remediation Services in the Bureau of Waste Management and by the Environmental Cleanup Program, Storage Tank Section, in each of DEP's six regional offices
The Storage Tanks Cleanup Program is responsible for developing and maintaining regulations, policies, technical guidance and public outreach programs necessary to implement the cleanup program to remediate releases from storage tanks in accordance with the Clean Streams Law, Storage Tank and Spill Prevention Act and the Land Recycling and Environmental Remediation Standards Act (Act 2). In addition, the program manages the federal LUST (Leaking Underground Storage Tank) grant.
The storage tank section in each of DEP's regional offices is responsible for implementing the storage tank cleanup program. Staff are involved in responding to complaints from persons affected by releases from storage tanks, overseeing and tracking the status of responsible party-lead cleanups, and taking and overseeing state-lead corrective actions.
