Pennsylvania State Government Employees
The State Library of PA provides interlibrary loan service to Pennsylvania state government employees. Commonwealth employees may make interlibrary loan requests through their agency library or by contacting a State Library reference librarian. (phone: 717-783-5669)
General Public - Within Pennsylvania
The State Library’s resources are available to all Pennsylvania residents through their local library’s interlibrary loan system. There is no charge for this service. Requests from individuals are not accepted. Books and newspapers on microfilm are generally loaned for a period of 28 days. Loan of newspaper microfilm is limited to five (5) reels per request at one time. Genealogy materials do not circulate. Photocopies of journal articles are supplied at no charge.
General Public - Outside Pennsylvania
The State Library only accepts interlibrary loan requests from out-of-state libraries that are members of LVIS (Libraries Very Interested in Sharing) or that have a formal no-charge reciprocal agreement with the State Library. There is no borrowing restriction on Pennsylvania Newspapers and Documents for libraries within the continental U.S. There is no charge for this service. Requests from individuals and foreign requests are not accepted. Books and newspapers on microfilm are generally loaned for a period of 28 days. Loan of newspaper microfilm is limited to five (5) reels per library at one time. Genealogy materials do not circulate. Photocopies of journal articles are supplied at no charge.
Interlibrary loan requests may be sent to the State Library by using the OCLC ILL Subsystem (OCLC symbol PHA), or by mailing or faxing an ALA or other standardized interlibrary loan request form.
