Chairman John E. Stevens
John E. Stevens was appointed to the State Civil Service Commission by Governor Tom Corbett; confirmed by the Pennsylvania State Senate on December 13, 2011; and appointed to the position of Chairman of the State Civil Service Commission by Governor Corbett on January 6, 2012. As a result of legislation passed (House Bill 378) by the General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Corbett on October 5, 2011, Chairman Stevens serves as the first statutorily required veteran member of the Pennsylvania State Civil Service Commission.
Chairman Stevens is a Major General, USA, Retired, with over 36 years of service in the U.S. Army and Pennsylvania National Guard. He is a Lehigh University Emeritus Professor of Management and Marketing and most recently served as Director, Master of Professional Studies in Supply Chain Management, Smeal College of Business, Pennsylvania State University. Chairman Stevens served on active duty as Assistant Deputy Commanding General, U.S. Army Material Command, from September 2001 to July 2004.
Chairman Stevens holds a Ph.D. in Management and a M.A. in Industrial Relations from the University of Cincinnati and an M.B.A. and B.S. in Industrial Management from the University of Dayton. He is also a graduate of the United States Army War College.
