Brigadier General John L. Gronski, a native of Moosic, Pennsylvania, received his commission in the United States Army in May 1978 through the ROTC program at the University of Scranton, Scranton, PA. He assumed the duties as Deputy Adjutant General – Army, Pennsylvania National Guard, on 5 July 2011.

Previous operational assignments include duty as commander of 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 28th Infantry Division (Forward), Ramadi, Iraq; commander of 55th Brigade, 28th Infantry Division (Forward), Task Force Keystone, Central Region, Europe; Military Liaison Team Chief in the Republic of Lithuania; and command and staff assignments with infantry and armor units. He has served as J2/3, Joint Force Headquarters, Pennsylvania National Guard.

BG Gronski is a graduate of numerous military schools to include the U.S. Army War College, the Command and General Staff Course,  the Infantry Officer Advanced Course, Ranger School, and Airborne School.  His military awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Ranger Tab, and Basic Parachutist Badge. 

BG Gronski is a graduate of the University of Scranton where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Services. He holds a Master of Business Administration from Penn State University, and a Master of Science in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania. BG Gronski has attended Alvernia University as a doctoral student in the corporate leadership program. BG Gronski is a certified Project Management Professional and holds a master certificate as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt from Villanova University.

BG Gronski is a member of VFW Post 6150 in Sinking Spring, PA and serves on the board of directors for the Hawk Mountain Boy Scout Council and the First Regiment Infantry of PA. He also serves on the Management Division Academic Advisory Council at Penn State’s School of Graduate Studies in Malvern, PA. BG Gronski is the recipient of the Frank J. O’Hara Award in the Government Service Category, the highest award bestowed jointly by the University of Scranton and the Alumni Society, and is a recipient of the Boy Scouts of America James E. West Award.

BG Gronski and his wife Berti reside in Berks County, PA. They have two sons. Stephen served in the United States Marine Corps and currently works in the construction industry and Timothy attends college and is a Staff Sergeant in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, and has two combat tours to both Iraq and Afghanistan.
