Deadline: Potential sponsors may apply at any time during the school year. All application requirements must be met before monthly payments are provided.
Applications are submitted on the Division of Food and Nutrition, CN PEARS website by current sponsors for renewal annually and by potential new sponsors upon request. Access is available to authorized users.
- A federal program providing federal and state reimbursements for school lunches served that meet nutrient standards and meal pattern requirements.
- Children are eligible for paid, free, or reduced price meals based on family income and household size.
Restrictions on Funding
- Funds may not be used for construction or land/building purchases.
- Sponsors may not have more than three months operating costs on hand.
Eligible Entities and/or Partners
Any public school district, intermediate unit, charter school, area vocational technical school, public residential child care institution and tax exempt non-public school or licensed residential child care institution may apply to sponsor the National School Lunch Program.
Method of Distribution
Monthly payments are made to sponsors based on the number of meals served in paid, free, and reduced price eligibility categories. Reimbursement rates are adjusted annually in paid, free, and reduced price categories.
