The State Museum of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, recently unveiled an exhibit explaining the archaeological investigations being conducted by PHMC at Fort Hunter Mansion and Park along the Susquehanna River north of the capital city. Why We Dig Archaeology at Fort Hunter Mansion and Park explores how and why archaeologists are conducting these investigations at the site of an important French and Indian War fortification. Visitors learn about the methods employed by archaeologists in excavating and interpreting the archaeological evidence of more than nine thousand years of occupation at the site. Why We Dig Archaeology, featuring photographs and significant artifacts recovered by PHMC archaeologists and volunteers, continues through August 1, 2012. To learn more, visit www.statemuseumpa.org.
