Conducts criminal and administrative investigations of violations involving inmates, staff, volunteers, visitors, contractors, vendors or any outside source that would have an adverse effect on the orderly operation of DOC facilities. Initiates prosecutions in accordance with appropriate criminal justice procedures.

Responsible for monitoring all factions of allegations of inmate abuse. Reviews institutional investigations and conducts independent investigations relative to those allegations as required.

Responsible for conducting background investigations on all DOC applicants and supplemental investigations on reinstated staff.

Designated as the National Criminal Information Center (NCIC)/Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network(CLEAN) terminal agency unit for the DOC. Responsible for initial certification of terminal operators, training and ensuring compliance of departmental, as well as state and federal regulations.

Provides technical investigative assistance to DOC facilities.
