Reducing energy use and protecting and preserving the environment for future generations are important to Pennsylvania’s citizens. About $404 million in Recovery Act funds will help keep our air and water clean, and advance energy programs for homeowners, businesses, and energy producers. The funds include:

  • $253 million for weatherization, with local vendors providing weatherization services across Pennsylvania
  • $4.7 million for several clean diesel programs
  • $23 million for Conservation Works! – a program that will help local government and non-profit organizations improve energy efficiency, curb energy consumption and reduce energy costs
  • $1.6 million for water quality management planning 
  • $11.9 million to fund a rebate program to help residents replace non-electric heating/water heating equipment

$22 Million Investment in Energy Conservation Projects
Governor Edward G. Rendell today announced Pennsylvania’s Conservation Works! grant program will save more than 570 million kilowatt hours of electricity, generate an additional 14.4 million kilowatt hours, and reduce natural gas use by 2.1 million thousand cubic feet over the lifetimes of the various projects.

The Department of Labor & Industry today extended the application deadline for as many as seven $150,000 grants available to prospective training providers of home weatherization products and installers, crew chiefs and auditors. Oct. 16 is the new deadline to apply for the funding provided through the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
