Enforcement Actions, Market Conduct and Market Surveillance

Those that are in the business of insurance must comply with the insurance laws of the commonwealth. Should there be a violation of the laws, the department has civil authority to impose fines, suspend or even revoke an insurance license in addition to other regulatory tools. This is not a task that is taken lightly. Our investigations range from monitoring the activity of licensed individuals, business entities and insurance companies, examining records, files and practices of insurance entities and their compliance with Pennsylvania statutes and regulations and overseeing that the rates charged in the marketplace are not unfairly discriminatory or excessive to any individual or group.
