The SERS Board allocates a portion of the Fund’s assets to shares of publicly traded corporations. One of the most important responsibilities that SERS has as an owner of a publicly traded company, is to elect the board of directors of that company, and to vote on important corporate governance matters and business decisions that come before the company’s board.
The SERS Board has approved both U.S. and international policies that guide its decisions in these matters, and votes its shares in the best interests of its members and Beneficiaries. Through SERS’ Proxy Voting Database you can view those policies and votes. You can search the database by company name, and view the date of the company’s annual meeting, the issues presented to the company’s shareholders for a vote, how management for the company recommended that investors vote and how SERS actually voted on the matter in consideration of its policies. SERS discloses this information so that both its Board-approved policies and actual voting record are fully transparent to its members and the public.
