Campaign for Wise and Safe Investing™

The Campaign for Wise and Safe Investing™ is designed to help older investors and potential investors with research-based investor education and protection.

The program trains AARP Consumer Issues Task Force volunteers to become senior Department of Banking and Securities staff educate consumers on how to be wise and safe investors through:

  • Presentations at local libraries, senior centers, and other community centers and groups;
  • “Money Matters” (free, periodic investor education seminars);
  • Consumer University; and
  • Investment Fraud Bingo educational presentations.

Elder Investment Fraud and Financial Exploitation Prevention Program

The Elder Investment Fraud and Financial Exploitation Prevention Program is designed to train physicians, adult protective services professionals and senior caregivers to identify and assist individuals at risk of elder investment fraud due to mild cognitive impairment.

Using a model that was piloted in Texas by the Baylor College of Medicine, program uses Continuing Medical Education training to educate medical professionals who routinely see older Americans as part of their practice about elder investment fraud, how to recognize it in their patients and to whom to report suspected fraud.

This program is a collaboration between the Baylor College of Medicine, the Investor Protection Trust, the Investor Protection Institute, the National Adult Protective Services Association, and the North American Securities Administrators Association in cooperation with leading U.S. medical associations, including the American Academy of Family Physicians, the National Area Health Education Center Organization and the National Association of Geriatric Education Centers at the national level and state securities regulators, Adult Protective Services offices and state chapters of the professional medical associations at the state and local levels.

Investment Fraud Bingo

What is Investment Fraud Bingo?

A fun and interactive program that teaches consumers how to protect themselves from investment fraud by playing a familiar game: Bingo!

How do I play?

Play just like you would regular Bingo but with an added twist. Each time the Bingo game caller announces the square, participants read aloud the accompanying message found on their bingo card if they have a match. The winner shouts . It

You will learn how to detect investment fraud by identifying common being aware of local scams affecting your own city or town, and learning techniques to protect yourself from this financial abuse.

The Investment Fraud Bingo program is free of charge.

Save and Invest PA!

“Save and Invest PA!” is a presentation designed for high school students to introduce them to concepts and practices of saving, investing and protecting themselves from financial scams. Students do not need to be studying these topics and do not need previous experience with these topics. Students will learn:

  • How easy it is to lose your money to a financial scam Ponzi schemes work
  • What you what you can do with $3.00 a day through saving and investing. Down the road you may really be able to buy what you want
  • What stocks, CDs, savings accounts, money market funds, bonds, mutual funds actually mean and how you can use them to build personal wealth.

The “Save and Invest PA!” presentation includes video segments, real-life pictures and also stories designed to relate to students. The presentation is approximately 40-45 minutes in length. If necessary, length can be adjusted to work with your schedule needs.
