Program Description:
- Supports Local Education Agency efforts to infuse service learning activities into K-12 academic curricula as a means of enhancing student achievement and promoting personal growth. Service learning is a teaching methodology by which students learn and develop through active participation in thoughtfully organized service that is based on classroom learning, and is conducted in and meets the needs of the school and/or local community.
- Regulated through the National and Community Service Trust Act of 1993
- Program performance expectations vary according to the grant category; most designate a minimum number of students' participating in 25-30 hours of service. (Competitive guidelines usually stipulate three or more categories of Learn and Serve grants each year.)
Restrictions on Funding: Funds may not be used for construction or items unrelated to program operation.
