Pennsylvania State Archives (Directions)
The State Archives accepts transfers of inactive, historically valuable records created by local governments and state judicial system officers in accordance with procedures and requirements outlined in state law and its policy to promote the establishment and use of local government operated archives. Since the acceptance of any records transfer is at the discretion of the State Archives and the transferring agency, local government/ judicial officers should first contact Susan Hartman to discuss possible transfer.
County records can be found at the State Archives in Record Group 47 (County Governments). Records of municipal governments are located in Record Group 48 (Municipal Governments), and school records are contained in Record Group 55 (School Districts).
The State Archives has more than 16,000 rolls of microfilmed county and municipal records available for viewing in the Archives Search Room.
