Marcellus Shale Emergency Response Training

As of June 30, 2012 the OSFC has conducted 79 "Well Site Emergency for First Responders" classes in 36 counties with 3,844 students attending.

This 4-hour training class called "Well Site Emergency for First Responders" will cover a host of issues, from what to expect upon arriving at a well site, to how best to coordinate with on-site industry personnel.  Pennsylvania Department of Health (PA DOH) has approved this class for .5 hours of con-ed credit under "other".  Persons that attended a WEFR program can apply for credit through endorsement by contacting their regional EMS council and verifying the way (paper or electroncially) to receive credit.

These training programs will be conducted by SFA Adjunct Instructors/Staff assigned to the "Academy on the Road Program" (AOTR) who has successfully completed the Train-The-Trainer (T-T-T) program.

To sponsor a "Well Site Emergency for First Responders" in your county, please contact the SFA at 800-459-4096 or 717-247-3753, and speak with Lou Ann May, the Alternative Energy Administrative Officer.

Instructors, course materials and certificates will be issued by the SFA at no cost to the sponsoring agency. The sponsoring agency will be responsible for a suitable classroom with tables and chairs for a maximum of 60 persons.

Program deliveries can be conducted in any of the counties where Marcellus Gas well drilling and production is now occurring or in the counties that border those counties.

As courses are scheduled, they will be included with contact information for the sponsoring agency.

Pre-registration is mandatory. Please contact the host contact for an application to attend.
