Welcome to the Municipal Police Officers' Education and Training Commission Web Site

The Municipal Police Officers’ Education & Training Commission was established in 1974 to set certification and training standards for police officers employed in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Regulations published from the Act 120 statute guide the process for determining eligibility for certification and standardize the basic academy and annual in-service training curriculum provided to all certified police officers.

Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2010 (LEOSA)

Amendments to the original federal statute, Law Enforcement Officers' Safety Act (LEOSA), have been enacted.  To be effective, regulations implemented in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania require revision.  At its March 10, 2011 quarterly meeting, the Municipal Police Officers' Education and Training Commission voted to proceed with proposed regulatory revisions to conform the Commonwealth's requirements to LEOSA.  Until amended regulations are finalized, the current Retired Law Enforcement Identification Act (RLEIA), regulations, and procedures remain in effect.  Updated status of the amended regulations will be provided when available.  Please follow the link on the left side of this page for information on processing under RLEIA.
