Northeast Regional Office - Directions
Directions to DEP’s Northeast Regional Office:
From Route 81 South (Coming from Scranton, or Routes 84 or 380):
Take exit 170B off Route 81 (Rt. 115S/Wilkes-Barre Exit). You’ll pass a Red Roof Inn on your right. You are now on Route 309 (a.k.a. the North Cross Valley Expressway). Stay in the two left lanes and then take EXIT 2. At the bottom of the exit ramp is a traffic light at a T-intersection. Make a left onto Wilkes-Barre Boulevard. At the first traffic light (Conyngham Ave.) go straight. Continue straight through lights at Butler, Scott and Coal Streets. At the next light, make a right onto Market Street. Continue straight ahead through lights at Pennsylvania Boulevard and Washington Street. At the next light you'll be facing Public Square and you will enter a traffic circle by making a right. Stay in the right lane. Go to the very next light (i.e., 1/4 of the way around the traffic circle) and turn right onto North Main Street.
Immediately look for a 5-story parking garage on your left. Look for a horizontal brown and white "ENTRANCE" sign, and turn left into that driveway. (Note: This serves as the entrance to both the Ramada parking area as well as the public parking garage.) Follow the green and white arrow directing you up a small ramp on your right and into the public parking garage. Be sure to bring your parking ticket along with you and have it validated by the DEP receptionist on the 2nd floor of the DEP building.
From the PA Turnpike/Rt. 476 (Coming from Philadelphia or Allentown areas):
Take exit 105 off the turnpike (Bear Creek exit). At the end of the turnpike ramp, make a left onto Route 115 (North). Follow the road down the mountain. Go through a traffic light and then cross over Route 81. You are now on Route 309 (a.k.a. the North Cross Valley Expressway). You’ll pass a Red Roof Inn on your right. From Route 81 North (Coming from Harrisburg, Hazleton or Route 80):
Take exit 168 (Highland Park Blvd.) off Rt. 81 North and continue down a relatively long ramp. You will see an arena on your right. At the T-intersection at the bottom of the ramp, make a left. Continue down this road through a light at the entrance to Wegman's supermarket. At the second light continue going straight, and this will put you onto Coal Street. Continue through a third light, and at the bottom of the hill at a T-intersection, turn left onto Wilkes-Barre Boulevard and stay in the right lane. At the first light, make a right onto Market Street. Continue straight ahead through two lights at intersections with Pennsylvania Avenue and Washington Street. At the third light you'll be facing Public Square and will enter a traffic circle by making a right. Stay in the right lane through the traffic circle. Go to the first light (i.e., 1/4 of the way around the traffic circle).

Be sure to bring your parking ticket along with you and have it validated by the DEP receptionist on the 2nd floor of the DEP building.
Finding DEP once you've parked:
As you come down the stairs or out of the elevator from the parking garage, turn left and walk beneath the garage structure. The Ramada will be on your left. Continue out from beneath the garage and look ahead and to the left for the rear entrance to a large tan 5-story building with a big gray garage door. To the left of the garage door is a glass double-door with the DEP logo on it. Enter the building here and continue down the hallway to a set of green double doors. Turn right after going through the doors and then make a left through the archway. Bear left around the bank of elevators. Please take either the middle or far right elevator to the 2nd floor.
You may also enter DEP from the front side on West Market Street. As you face the DEP building (a large, mostly tan building with a 3-story archway facing the public square), look to the left for the entry with the DEP logo on the doors. Continue down the hallway and bear right at the bank of elevators. Please take either the middle or far right elevator to the 2nd floor.

From I-81 Take exit 185 (old exit 53) onto the Central Scranton Expressway. Follow the Central Scranton Expressway to the first light. At the light, turn left onto Lackawanna Avenue and follow to the corner of Penn Avenue and Lackawanna Avenue. Enter the Samter Building, 100 Lackawanna Avenue, through the Penn Avenue entrance and take the elevator to the 4th floor.

From the North: Take Interstate 380 South to the Tobyhanna exit #8. At the exit bear right onto Rt. 611 south. Follow Rt. 611 South through Mt. Pocono and Swiftwater. The office is on the right approximately 1 mile from the traffic light in Swiftwater. "Smokey Bear" sign at driveway on the right along with blue recycling bins. (Just past the Pocono Cheesecake Factory).
From The South: Take Rt. 33 North to Interstate 80 Westbound (Exit #302). Take I-80 West to Scotrun (Exit #298). At the end of the ramp turn left onto Rt. 611 North and go approximately 1.5 Miles. The building is on the left. "Smokey Bear" sign at driveway on the right along with blue recycling bins. (Just before the Pocono Cheesecake Factory).
From The West: Take Interstate 80 East to the Tannersville (Exit #299). At the end of the ramp, turn right onto Rt. 715 North. At the second light, turn left onto Rt. 611 North. Follow Rt. 611 North for approximately 2.5 miles. The building will be on the left. "Smokey Bear"sign at driveway on the right along with blue recycling bins. (Just before the Pocono Cheesecake Factory). Building description: one story brown brick building.

Directions from Wilkes-Barre:
PA Turnpike South, get off Lehigh Valley Exit (Exit 33). Go East on Rt. #22 get off Rt. 512 North Exit. At the 4th traffic light you will see a Summit Bank on the right, we are approx. 500 feet past that bank on the right. DEP sign at the end of the driveway (just before East Penn Bank).
Directions from Harrisburg:
Take Rt. 78 East, Exit 15 (US22) continue on US22 past Allentown exits to PA 512 (Center Street Exit). Turn right at end of exit. Go through 4 traffic lights. Turn right into our driveway at DEP sign, which is just before East Penn Bank.
Directions from Philadelphia:
Take PA Turnpike North, get off at Lehigh Valley Exit (#33). Proceed East on Route 22, get off Exit 512 (Center Street Exit). Turn right at end of exit. Go through 4 traffic lights. Turn right into our driveway at DEP sign, which is just before East Penn Bank.
If using Route 378 from Coopersburg/Center Valley area or from Bethlehem:
Follow Route 378 North to Route 22 East and get off Rt. 512 Exit. (Center Street) Turn right at end of exit. Go through 4 traffic lights. Turn right into our driveway at DEP sign which is just before East Penn Bank.
If using Route 309 from Philadelphia or other points south of Allentown/Bethlehem:
Proceed North on Route 309 (Routes 78 and 309 combine just north of Center Valley). BE SURE TO CONTINUE ON ROUTE 309. (When Route 78 splits to the West, just beyond the Hamilton Blvd. Exits, stay in right lanes for Route 309). Remain on Route 309 to Route 22 East and follow to Route 512 Exit.

The Pottsville District Mining Office is located across from the Schuylkill County Court House on West Laurel Boulevard. Visitor and handicapped parking available in lot directly behind the building. Entrance for visitors is in front.
From Northeast:
Take I-81 South to Exit 36 (St. Clair). Take Rt. 61 South into Pottsville. At the light at the Pizza Hut, make very hard right. At intersection, stay left onto Laurel Blvd. Go 2 blocks, at the top of the hill, office is on the left.
From Southeast:
From Rt. 422, take Reading Exit (West Shore Bypass). Take Allentown Exit (Warren St. Bypass). Take Rt. 61 North ramp (Pottsville). Follow Rt. 61 approx. 35 miles into Pottsville. At light at the Pizza Hut, make "soft" left. At intersection, stay left onto Laurel Blvd. Go 2 blocks, at the top of the hill, office is on the left.
From Harrisburg:
Take I-81 North to Exit 31 (Pine Grove). Take Rt. 443 East to Friedensburg. Turn left at light at Western Auto onto Rt. 183. Go straight at intersection in Cressona. At next light (Sheetz Store) make a right. Proceed into Pottsville. After passing the Town Square, make a left on Second St., go 2 blocks; you’ll come upon the rear of the office. The office parking lot entrance is on the right.
From West:
Take I-80 East to Exit 33 (Danville). Take Rt. 54 East to Rt. 901 South into Minersville. At the fourth light, before you cross the railroad tracks, make a right (Rt. 209). Follow this into Pottsville. After passing the Town Square, make a left on Second St., go 2 blocks; you’ll come upon the rear of the office. The office parking lot entrance is on the right.
From East:
Take I-78 West to Exit 9 (Pottsville) take Rt. 61 North into Pottsville. At light at the Pizza Hut, make "soft" left. At intersection, stay left onto Laurel Blvd. Go 2 blocks, at the top of the hill, office is on the left.
