The State Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators welcomes its newest members.
William E. Tunke, OTR/L, was confirmed by the Senate as a professional member (care of the chronically ill representative) on June 27, 2011. Mr. Tunke has been in the healthcare field as an Occupational Therapist for more than 33 years. He has held many positions in hospitals and long term care facilities from a Staff Therapist to a Regional Director for a skilled nursing facility company. He is presently an independent contractor in home healthcare. Bill graduated from New York University with his B.S. in Occupational Therapy and has attained management training in dealing with manager/employee conflicts, overcoming resistance to change and dealing with difficult employees from Developmental Dimensions Institute (D.D.I.). He has used this training to educate people in different levels of management to deal with various issues to solutions. Several years ago he was recognized in the Directors section of Who's Who in America. Bill has taken the required course work for the personal care administrator's license. Bill has recently established a business that provides in-home services which can assist in keeping seniors in their homes with emphasis on continuing with the programs that therapists have developed specifically for them.
Bill has been married to his wife for more than 37 years and has three children and two grandchildren. He lives in Wescosville, in the Lehigh Valley. On his free time, he enjoys playing golf and is a model railroad enthusiast.
Diane Howarth was confirmed by the Senate as a professional member (care of the chronically ill representative) on Dec. 12, 2011. Ms. Howarth currently holds the position of Chief Operating Officer for Hospice of Central PA, a community based, not for profit hospice that has served the Harrisburg and surrounding area for more than 30 years, helping people face their final years comfortably and with dignity. As many hospice patients are residents in nursing facilities, she has become interested in how these two types of care providers interact to provide the best in end of life care. In 1993 Diane graduated from the College of St. Frances with a bachelor’s degree in health care administration. Diane is a diploma RN, which she obtained through training at the Lankenau Hospital School of Nursing.
Diane’s nursing experience has been varied, including significant experience in neonatal intensive care, as Director of Medical Management in managed care, and over 15 years in hospice, with a focus on quality and compliance.
Diane lives in southern Lancaster County on a small farmette, raising chickens, ducks and goats. She rides a motorcycle, taking several long trips each summer to a different part of the country.
