Kathrin V. Smith is Assistant Deputy Chief Counsel to the Public School Employees’ Retirement System and the Pennsylvania Municipal Retirement System. In this role, Ms. Smith handles benefit administration matters and represents the retirement systems in administrative appeals and civil matters. Ms. Smith previously worked for the U. S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s Office of General Counsel in Washington, D.C., where she was a member of the General Litigation Group. Prior to working for the SEC, Ms. Smith was an associate with the law firms of Nixon Peabody LLP and McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP in Washington, D.C. She also was a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Thomas G. Saylor of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.
Ms. Smith received her J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where she was selected to the Order of the Barristers. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, cum laude, at the State University of New York at Buffalo.
