Organ Donation Advisory Committee

Organ Donation Advisory Committee members are appointed by the Governor to five-year terms and remain in office until a successor is appointed. The Committee meets approximately four times each year and is responsible for advising the Secretary of Health on matters relating to the administration of The Governor Robert P. Casey Memorial Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Trust Fund, reviewing progress in the area of organ and tissue donation, recommending priorities for expenditure of the Trust Fund, recommending education and awareness programs, recommending legislation, and reporting to the General Assembly at the end of each legislative session.

The Organ and Tissue Donation Action Plan 2010

The Organ Donation Advisory Committee (ODAC), Departments of Health, Education, and Transportation, Center for Organ Recovery and Education (CORE), Gift of Life Donor Program (GOL) and other stakeholders undertook the goal of developing a strategic plan to increase organ and tissue donation awareness and education, while incorporating recommendations of the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee (LBFC) Report of 2007.  The Plan identifies the five areas that are most in need of strengthening as: Legislative review and advocacy; Increase funding to $5 million per year; Increase designation rate to 75 percent; Communication strategy; and Develop and strengthen partnerships.  The end product is a comprehensive list of goals and activities which will draw on the efforts, resources and interests of the partners to work in collaboration to strengthen the collective capacity to increase organ and tissue donor designation rates through education and awareness across Pennsylvania.
