The parents, then the evaluator, and finally the superintendent all work together to assure that homeschooled students receive an appropriate education. Evaluators and superintendents have the opportunity, in reviewing the portfolio, to provide struggling home education programs with guidance and support.

As you track the progress of your homeschooled students to ensure compliance throughout their homeschool participation, these sections of the home education law may be particularly helpful:

- Requirements for the elementary level students (K-6). See 24 P.S. § 13-1327.1 (c1)

- Requirements for the secondary level students (7-12). See 24 P.S. § 13-1327.1 (c2)

- Graduation requirements. See 24 P.S. § 13-1327.1 (d)

These also are listed in the Curriculum section of this Home Education website.

Sometimes a simple spreadsheet, similar to the following example, can be used to track the completed requirements over the student’s career.

Additionally, if a home education program transfers to another school district, a letter of transfer is required. This documentation may be added to the letter of transfer and serve as a transcript to ensure continuity and that credit is given in the new district for work completed in the former district. This may become an issue for graduation.

If the home education program has not associated with one of the organizations that may grant a PDE-recognized diploma, but the home education graduation requirements have been met, the appropriate local school is required to submit to PHEAA a certification that the home education program is in compliance with section 1327.1 of the Public School Code of 1949 (24 P. S. § 13-1327.1). See 22 Pa Code § 121.21 (c).
