Human Resource Management Trainee Program

Notice: The Human Resource Management Trainee program will not be offered in FY 13/14. 

The Human Resource Management Trainee (HRMT) program provides trainees the opportunity to learn and prepare for a job in the commonwealth’s human resources system.  Trainees receive extensive classroom training, perform rotations in various state agencies and have numerous opportunities to develop a professional network within the HR community.

Structured rotational assignments will focus on four of the following areas:

  • Job Classification and Pay
  • Labor Relations
  • Executive Level Overview at the Office of Administration
  • Funding Agency Overview

Salary during the training year will be $33,369.00. Upon successful completion of the 12-month program, trainees will attain permanent status and are promoted into new classifications with an increase in salary. A bachelor’s degree in any field of study is the minimum educational requirement for applicants into the Human Resource Management Trainee program.  An applicant who has completed 90 or more credit hours and expects to receive a degree by July of the hiring year may take the test.  A civil service application and test must be completed. Contact the State Civil Service Commission, your school placement office, or the HRMT Program Director for more information.
