Massachusetts Think Tank Awards PA Open for Business
The Pioneer Institute recognized Pennsylvania Open for Business as the winner of their 2003 Better Government Competition in the category of Economic Opportunity. Attending the ceremony on June 3, were Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and former U.S. Senator Alan Simpson. PA Open for Business accepted the award from Stephen Adams, President of the Pioneer Institute.
This year’s winning proposals were thus developed in a context of extreme economic uncertainty. Each of the papers acknowledges the current strain on public resources and the critical need to make the best use of every tax dollar. The overriding theme is cooperation—crossing boundaries to share information and resources for the greater good; three of the ideas selected for recognition focus specifically on seeking economies of scale through regionalization.
