Accreditation is a progressive and time-proven way of helping institutions evaluate and improve their overall performance. The cornerstone of this strategy lies in the promulgation of standards containing a clear statement of professional objectives. Participating administrators then conduct a thorough analysis to determine how existing operations can be adopted to meet these objectives. When the procedures are in place, a team of independent professionals is assigned to verify that all applicable standards have been successfully implemented.
The Pennsylvania State Capitol Police currently with 145 members, was established in 1895 as the first Pennsylvania Police Agency under Commonwealth jurisdiction and is second only to the Texas Rangers as oldest state police organization in the United States .
The Capitol Police is a multi-faceted law enforcement agency with varied responsibilities. In the "post 9/11 era" it has been charged with maintaining a safe environment for employees and visitors while on state property, the investigation of all crimes committed within its jurisdiction, as well as the protection of the property and grounds throughout the Capitol Complex and at the state office buildings in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Scranton. These services are accomplished by foot patrol, K-9 patrol, bike or vehicle patrol as well as a myriad of technological mechanisms and systems.
Great pride is taken in the Pennsylvania State Capitol Police as well as the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania .
