BOMBS, BOMB THREATS AND RELATED INCIDENTS, TERRORIST INCIDENTS, SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY, MAIL PACKAGES

Because terrorist incidents, bomb threats, actual bomb emergencies and related incidents present a serious and dangerous threat to officers, employees, the public, buildings and grounds, the Capitol Police has developed policy and training for its officers to respond to and investigate incidents related to terrorism, bomb threats/bomb emergencies, suspicious mail/packages/devices, suspicious individuals and suspicious activity in order to apprehend those responsible. These types of incidents are violent acts and a violation of the criminal laws of the United States.  In the event you receive a terrorist threat or bomb threat at your work location, it is imperative for your safety and the safety of others that the police having jurisdiction for your area be contacted immediately. DO NOT INGNORE ANY THREAT OR SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY- TAKE EVERY THREAT SERIOUSLY.

A bomb threat may be in a written form either by letter, e-mail, parcel, package, object/device or telephone.

If you receive a telephone bomb threat you should refer to the back cover of the Commonwealth Telephone Directory for the bomb threat data card, which lists important information in the event of a threat.

Be observant or your surroundings and report any unusual findings, suspicious activity or unusual situations.
