Project Review under Section 106 and PA History Code

Historic Preservation

One role of the Pennsylvania Bureau for Historic Preservation (Pennsylvania State Historic Preservation Office) is to advise and assist state and federal agencies in complying with their responsibilities under various legislation, such as the National Historic Preservation Act and the PA History Code, that protect historic properties. To meet this goal, the Bureau has established the Environmental Review process, through which it reviews projects for their potential to affect historic properties.

Use the navigation bar to the left. Guidelines is a section which contains various guidelines for fulfilling the Section 106 and PA History Code Project Review process. It includes archaeological investigation guidelines, curation guidelines, links to historic survey guidelines and other specialized information. Review Process is a section which explains the review process within the BHP for Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and under the PA History Code. The Consultant List contains information on archaeological consultants in Pennsylania and how to be added to the list. It also contains a link to a historic consultants list.

To provide a better understanding of the Act 106 review process, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation publishes a Citizen’s Guide to the Section 106 Process.
