English as a Second Language Content Standards for Adults (PDF) PA Dept. of Education, Bureau of ABLE, 2007. Content standards are the centerpiece of a strong academic program and link assessment, curriculum, and instruction. They describe what students should know and be able to do. Instructors and students use content standards to plan instruction that addresses student goals.

Transition Instruction
  • Career Gateway: Tool Kit (PDF, 3.76mb) Detailed stories of the processes used by ABLE agencies in planning, implementing, and evaluating materials and procedures that support the transition of adults to postsecondary education and training.
  • Career Gateway: Resources for Practitioners (PDF, 972kb) This document combines the practitioner and curriculum guides, which were designed to be used with the Career Gateway Tool Kit. Many of the resources referenced can be found in Section 2 of the Tool Kit.

Learn How to Vote (Pennsylvania Department of State)
This site was designed to inform the voters and the election officials throughout our Commonwealth on a wide variety of matters related to elections. Our voters can access information ranging from their voter registration status, to voting instructions, to where they vote on Election Day.

Driver and Vehicle Services (Pennsylvania Department of Transportation)
This site serves as a virtual service center that enables customers to complete e-Government services, fill out and print forms, download fact sheets, find service locations, learn about special programs, and contact PennDOT with driver and vehicle related questions and suggestions.

LINCS:  The Literacy Information and Communication System, commonly referred to as LINCS, is a national dissemination system, providing information and resources on a wide variety of literacy-relevant topics. Formerly under the now-defunct National Institute for Literacy (NIFL), LINCS is now administered at U.S. Department of Education, Office of Vocational and Adult Education (OVAE).

ERIC: The Education Resources Information Center (ERIC), sponsored by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) of the U.S. Department of Education, is a database of education literature going back to 1966.

State Library: Links on the right side of the State Library home page lead to a variety of ways to access resources for different purposes:

  • Catalog/PILOT: Search complete State Library catalog.
  • Ask Here PA: Online 24/7 chat service with reference librarian.
  • Access PA: Statewide database of holdings of Pennsylvania libraries.
  • POWER Library: Databases of journals and other full-text materials.
