PSSA stands for Pennsylvania System of School Assessment and is the standardized test given to students in 3rd, 5th, 8th and 11th grades throughout the state. Third graders proficiency levels were provided in 2005 for the first time. PSSA is a standards-based assessment and measures individual student growth. It also measures if a student is proficient in math and reading. Student results are reported as either advanced, proficient, basic or below basic.
