 Assessment: The Product

A professional development workshop for all K-12 school librarians, is the third in a series of three workshops on assessment of student products and performances, the heart of classroom practice today as educators focus instruction on academic standards.  School librarians, because of their knowledge of curriculum, students, and resources across content area grade levels, are well positioned to facilitate collaborative assessment practice in the school setting.  During this workshop, participants will recall information from the first two assessment workshops; apply the principles of strategies for assessment; and design motivators, objectives and assessment strategies critical for learning.

Collection Evaluation: Knowing What You Have and What You Need
Today's school library collections are moving toward focused collections that provide the level of depth needed to meet the demands of rigorous student academic standards. Also, in today’s economic environment, librarians need to show fiscal skill in targeting purchases with limited funds and tapping digital resources available via the Internet. Participants of this workshop will
learn to tailor a library collection to meet the needs of students, teachers, and the curriculum by
1. Applying data and strategies to assess existing library resources,
2. Developing an effective weeding plan, and
3. Setting priorities to build a physical and virtual library collection to meet the needs of their school.

How Good Is Good?  Driving School Library Program with PDE 428

Developed to address the need to improve school library programs using PDE 428 and other professional resources.  Participants will compare PDE 428 and the PSLA Companion Document to PDE 428, analyze a case study to complete a PDE 428 evaluation, and design a professional development plan that improves the school library program.
