Operation Secure Enterprise (OSE) is a mission critical initiative coordinated by the Office of Administration / Office for Information Technology in collaboration with Agencies to address the increasing security risks associated with technology based delivery of business services. OSE provides a thorough approach to provide enhanced cyber security to the Commonwealth and has addressed critical areas of cyber security, including network intrusion detection and protection systems and Internet access control and content filtering. A consolidated Security Information Management solution has been established to provide an enterprise level view regarding the condition of security in the Commonwealth's IT environment. Additionally, security assessments have been put in place to identify threats, vulnerabilities and risks to Commonwealth IT resources.
Operation Secure Enterprise provides the intelligence and real-time monitoring necessary to safe-guard the information systems that manage and maintain Commonwealth critical business resources and data. OSE takes a layered approach to security by implementing security solutions at the perimeter, the network, the computer, and the user levels.
OSE is providing enhanced information security protection for the Commonwealth by formulating enterprise plans and approaches to:
- Guard against existing and future threats and vulnerabilities
- Proactively respond to cyber threats and attacks
- Monitor and audit information security - from the desktop through the network to the application servers
- Lower the cost of ownership while increasing security and availability of government online services
- Educating Commonwealth personnel on the role they play in securing information assets
- Upgrading Commonwealth information assets to more secure and scalable platforms
