Sickle Cell Disease


 

The Pennsylvania Sickle Cell Disease Program provides access to comprehensive medical and psychosocial services to persons diagnosed with sickle cell disease.     

This is accomplished through grants with pediatric and adult sickle cell disease treatment centers that emphasize a multidisciplinary team approach to care, and grants that provide local community-based psychosocial services.  Services provided by the program include:

  • Confirmatory testing
  • Comprehensive care coordination
  • Counseling
  • Education
  • Emergency medical care
  • Newborn screening follow-up
  • Outreach 
  • Preventive therapeutic therapy
  • Support groups
  • Transition services
