State Health Improvement Plan (SHIP)

The Department of Health is in the planning stage of the development of the 2015-2019 State Health Improvement Plan (SHIP).

The SHIP will be Pennsylvania's blueprint for health improvement.

Components of the SHIP development process are:

  • A shared vision with partners and stakeholders to improve population health;
  • Analysis of health data, reports and programs;
  • Identified needs, resources and challenges that influence health status;
  • Health improvement priorities, selected through a collaborative process;
  • Measurable objectives, improvement strategies, performance measures, policy changes and time-framed targets identified; and,
  • An evaluation plan that tracks progress.

Healthcare Workforce Reports

The Department of Health recognizes the importance of an adequate supply of health care professionals and the increased difficulty in recruiting certain types of health professionals in many areas of the commonwealth.

To address this, the Department of Health, with the assistance of the Department of State, conducts surveys of members of selected licensed health professions during license renewal.  Workforce reports are developed based on this survey data.  Health Care Workforce Reports are developed based on this survey data.
