Qualifications for Continuing
Education Courses

To ensure that continuing education courses are relevant and improve or maintain licensees’ professional competence, the board regulations set limitations on course content and approved providers. Continuing education courses that are approved by the Board of Veterinary Medicine must be of a scientific/medical nature, and the courses must pertain directly to the practice of Veterinary Medicine.  They may not include courses in office management or practice building.  Courses in alternative medicine or of a holistic nature may be approved if they are based on medical evidence.

Health Licensing Board Roundtable
Yields Positive Feedback and Results

Acting Secretary Basil L. Merenda and Deputy Commissioner Mark Vessella held the first Health Licensing Board Roundtable discussion meeting in several years on July 15.  The meeting’s 30 attendees included board chairs, administrators and division chiefs.

During the meeting, various administrative issues were discussed and board chairs were given the opportunity to raise issues of concern for their board.

Disaster Preparation: Planning Beats Wishing

Hoping a disaster won’t affect you can never take the place of actually being prepared for one.

Only 34 percent of Pennsylvanians have started preparing for a disaster, although 60 percent recognize that it would be helpful for them to do so. September, which is National Preparedness Month, is the perfect time to start those helpful preparations.
