The Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology's 83rd Annual Meeting
Holiday Inn, Clarion, PA
The theme will be "From East to West, Over the Hills and Through the Dales: Sifting Through Pennsylvania's Past". Students are encouraged to present and those presenting papers will have the meeting's registration fee waived. There will also be a Student Poster Session. Mock Excavations
Cedar Cliff High School, Camp Hill,PA
Mock excavations will be conducted again this year at Cedar Cliff High School. Last year students of Mr. Dan Reilly's AP History Class participated in a three week excavation of a simulated archaeological site. Through Mr. Reilly's hard work and with the assistance of professional archaeologists from the private sector as well as the State Museum of Pennsylvania, students learn a valuable multidisciplinary lesson using geology, biology, math, history and anthropology to hone their critical thinking skills and discover the joy of scientific discovery.

As in years past, the State Museum will have a stand on City Island during this year's Kipona Festival. The dugout canoe will be featured as well as artifacts recovered during years of excavation on City Island.

October 31 is not only Halloween but it is also Archaeology Day in the East Wing Rotunda at the Capitol building in Harrisburg. The PHMC in conjunction with the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology and the Pennsylvania Archaeology Council invite you to visit us at the state capitol as we share a glimpse of Pennsylvania's rich heritage with artifact displays, interactive demonstrations for children and the presentation of an award to the public servent who has gone above and beyond their duty to protect Pennsylvania's heritage.

Annual Workshop in Archaeology
The Pennsylvania State Museum, along with the Project Archaeology Program, will be holding its Annual Workshop in Archaeology again this year. This all day program will feature guest speakers lecturing on a variety of topics having to do with Pennsylvania archaeology.
