You will maintain and repair refrigeration and/or heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems including central and window-type air conditioning systems, and related equipment used to condition air, preserve food, and make ice. You will test components and parts such as compressors, relays, and thermostats, and make necessary adjustments and repairs. Work may also include accessing automated systems via computer; making adjustments online or in person; and conducting routine building inspections. Duties occasionally require working from ladders or scaffolding up to a height of 35 feet and working outdoors under adverse weather conditions.
This is skilled work at the journey level in the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration, and/or heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems, units, equipment, and peripheral devices, and total maintenance of rethermalization units. Essential job functions include interpreting electrical, refrigeration, and/or HVAC systems blueprints and diagrams and carrying out testing on equipment and component parts; use and care for hand and shop tools; adherence to safety precautions; performing heavy manual labor; recognizing occupational hazards; evaluation of refrigeration and/or HVAC system malfunctions, determining and carrying out corrective action, and preparing activity reports; understand and follow oral and written instructions.
