The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection currently has four openings for Mining Permit and Compliance Specialist. One is in the California District Mining Office (Washington County); one is in the Cambria District Mining Office (Cambria County); one is in the Greensburg District Mining Office (Westmoreland County); and one is in the Pottsville District Mining Office (Schuylkill County).

 

Type of Work
Your work will be concentrated in either the permitting or the compliance function of Pennsylvania mining. You may review requests from mine operators for mining related permits, and draft permits. You may also review investigations of complaints received and surveys conducted pertaining to mining operations. You may take enforcement action and assess civil penalties. You may also participate with Departmental staff in conducting and evaluating site investigations, inspections, and special projects on areas affected by mining activities, both surface and underground. This could require traversing rough terrain while carrying investigative equipment. Most incumbents will track and monitor permitting and/or compliance deadlines, provide advice to mine operators, and inform the public and mine operators of changes in departmental rules, regulations, policies and procedures. In addition, you will prepare letters, reports and other correspondence.

Starting Salary

$41,839/annually
