NATURE OF WORK
This is professional work performing administrative functions with respect to laboratory accreditation, quality assurance and safety programs for the laboratory system of a state agency. You will perform quality assurance duties to monitor the laboratory’s system compliance, develop quality assurance manuals and documents, conduct or coordinate quality assurance audits and resolve technical deficiencies. Work also includes administering the laboratory proficiency testing program, participating in and support training and safety programs, conducting safety inspections and audits and resolving deficiencies, and assisting in the development, presentation and coordination of standardized training. Work may involve testifying in court and at hearings as an expert witness.

For most positions you must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.
Pennsylvania residency is waived only for positions in this job title within the Pennsylvania State Police.
Minimum Requirements
Three years of professional laboratory experience in a chemical, physical, biological or forensic discipline and a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, or forensic sciences or closely related field, which included or was supplemented by 16 credit hours in chemistry or microbiology.
Graduate work in chemical, biological or forensic sciences or a closely related field may be substituted for experience up to a maximum of one year.
Conditions of Employment
Certain positions with the Pennsylvania State Police require that two of the three years of professional laboratory experience occurred in a forensic laboratory.
Certain positions in this class may require a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
