Civil Engineer Trainee

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation anticipates 40-50 vacancies each year for Civil Engineer Trainees throughout the state, at each of our District Offices.

Department of Transportation District 1-0 encompasses Crawford, Erie, Forest, Mercer, Venango and Warren counties.


Department of Transportation District 2-0 encompasses Cameron, Centre, Clearfield, Clinton, Elk, Juniata, McKean, Mifflin and Potter counties.


Department of Transportation District 3-0 encompasses Bradford, Columbia, Lycoming, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder, Sullivan, Tioga and Union counties.


Department of Transportation District 4-0 encompasses Lackawanna, Luzerne, Pike, Susquehanna, Wayne, and Wyoming counties.


Department of Transportation District 5-0 encompasses Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe, Northampton, and Schuylkill counties.


Department of Transportation District 6-0 encompasses Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties.


Department of Transportation District 8-0 encompasses Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry and York counties.


Department of Transportation District 9-0 encompasses Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Fulton, Huntingdon and Somerset counties.


Department of Transportation District 10-0 encompasses Armstrong, Butler, Clarion, Indiana and Jefferson counties.


Department of Transportation District 11-0 encompasses Allegheny, Beaver and Lawrence counties.


Department of Transportation District 12-0 encompasses Fayette, Greene, Washington and Westmoreland counties.

 

Type of Work
 
The Civil Engineering Trainee Program is a 15-month training program that encompasses four areas: General, Bridges, Structural, and Transportation. The program also gives Trainees the opportunity to spend time working in highly specific areas of interest. Upon successful completion of this program, Trainees will be promoted to a Civil Engineer position at a higher salary.

Starting Salary

Effective January 1, 2014, the salary is $50,054 for the training period.
